About The Role

The Endoscopy Nurse is responsible for working with the multi-disciplinary Team in the Endoscopy Unit to assess, implement and evaluate effective care.

The post holder will be a member of the Endoscopy team providing the highest standard of care and ensuring patient safety at all times.

This role will work closely with the Endoscopy Manager and other Endoscopy colleagues in carrying out all relevant forms of care and ensuring patient documentation and safety measures are carried out in accordance with CCL guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:
  • To promote and participate in an effective communication with colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team within Endoscopy, including the Consultant Endoscopist, Clinical Nurse Specialists, the Anaesthetic team and Radiology team, as well as other support staff.
  • To relay complex clinical information in a way that is easy to understand, in conjunction with senior Endoscopy and medical staff, to patients based on their diagnosis, treatment and care.
  • To demonstrate empathy and provide reassurance to patients undergoing a wide range of Endoscopic procedures and treatments.
  • To support patients, in conjunction with senior colleagues, after distressing news/prognosis has been imparted, where required.
  • To escalate incidents or issues affecting patients or caregivers to senior colleagues where required and participate in the related investigations. 
  • To ensure all equipment is in good, safe working order and ready for immediate use and to participate in the evaluation of stock levels and ordering supplies.
  • To act at all times at the patient’s advocate, ensuring their safety, well-being and dignity, continuously assessing their comfort and providing advice as necessary.
  • To uphold patient privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • To provide supervision, mentorship and support to a variety of caregivers and students working in the department, including appropriate delegation and offering guidance and training as required.

About You

Education:
  • RGN level 1 (minimum)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
  • Diploma in Higher Education Nursing is acceptable in the place or Bachelor’s degree
 
Languages:
  • Ability to speak and write in English is required
  • Equivalent to a level of 7 of the International English Language Testing System or the Occupational English Test (OET) at level B is required where relevant


    Certifications:
  • Nursing registration (First Level) through the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) required
  • Proof of Basic Life Support certification upon hire
  • Post-registration qualification relevant to functional specialty i.e. Mentorship (desirable)
  • No restrictions to practice on NMC record

  • Ability to work autonomously and also within a team environment where appropriate
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a complex environment and work under pressure where required, ensuring high quality, safe and effective patient care
  • Can effectively manage and respond to patients and visitors with challenging behaviour and know when to call for assistance
  • Demonstrates initiative to proactively problem solve with a solution focus, escalating more complex issues as required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Being reliable and flexible, demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment
  • Good oral and written communication skills with clear handwriting and computer literacy

    Work Experience/Skills:
    Experience in assisting in Endoscopy procedure room, recovery, or ward nursing roles, with at least 2 years’ recent experience in relevant specialty
  • Previous experience working within a private hospital setting and/or clinical environment is advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge of medical nursing and drugs, including their interactions and side effects
  • The post holder will have a comprehensive knowledge of Patient journey/pathways and will be able to care for a patient from admission to discharge
  • Up to date knowledge of the NMC guidelines and code of conduct
  • Will have an up to date PIN number with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with no extant restrictions to practice

    Personal Protective Equipment


  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

    Physical Skills
  • Moving patients from trolley/bed to X-ray table.
  • Manoeuvring wheelchairs and patient trolleys/bed.
  • Moving patients from chair to trolley/bed.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination skills.
